I didn’t reply to some emails and I haven’t heard from my supervisor in a while, shouldn’t they be contacting me?

No. At post graduate level the responsibility of a project rests with the student, not the supervisor. That is, it is the student’s responsibility to be proactive in progressing their project. It is not the responsibility of supervisors to chase you if you do not respond to emails or fail to attend meetings.
